Jill + Andy's Old Hollywood Glam Wedding

I'm so excited to finally share with you my latest wedding invitation suite, the Jillian. This was so much fun to work on because it was for my sister, Jill. She created my beautiful custom blush wedding gown back in 2013 for my wedding and will be showcasing a full bridal line in this years Kansas City fashion week. Jill's wedding was all about old Hollywood glamour. The wedding was held in an old mansion in Hyde Park and her dress was constructed from our late grandmother's 1940's wedding gown. We chose a telegram design for the save the date, with a line drawing of the Loose Mansion and a gold heart sticker to seal the note. For the invitations I decided to tell the story of how Jill and Andy met and all of their "firsts" together. By using classic serif font, romantic scripts and rich colors I created a little story book.

For the cover we incorporated a French proverb that translates to “try to reason about love and you will lose your reason”. I loved this piece because even though not everyone speaks French, the script added such a beautiful texture (I heard there was a lot of Googling going on to translate, so I guess that makes it interactive?). The center page was a traditional wedding invitation and the right page had the RSVP card nestled into a fabric pocket. I wanted to incorporate fabric somewhere for Jill and this was the perfect spot. I found it at a local sewing shop, it was the perfect color and pattern for the look we were going for and it was a Liberty of London design, one of Jill’s favorites.

On the back, I used the entire space to draw a map of all the places that represented Jill and Andy. There was the bar that they first met in, the restaurant they had their first date and the jeweler that helped design the engagement ring. Slotted in between the folds of the invite was the rehearsal dinner invite. It's unique shape was inspired by the Webster House, where the dinner was held. Out of all the fun things I created for this suite my favorite piece would have to be the address labels. They wrap around the narrow end of the envelope and the two tabs on the back have the return address on one and “a bientot!” on the other.
